how much base timming?

i have a 185 transam 305lg4 canadian model(non-ecc), later this summer i am dropping in a 350, but i recently put some botl-ons on the 305, header edelbrock performer 2101 manifold, edelbrock 1405 carb, and upgraded the coil and module, my question is where should i set the base timming, right now it's stock at 6btdc, it runs fine, but wondering if advancing it or retarding it will make a difference? any input would be helpfull

Re: how much base timming?

What is your max timing (with full mechanical advance)? You want that to be 36°. So, if you're only around 32° or so, you could bump up the initial timing another 4°, which would make the max timing 36°. Here are some good references to be familiar with.
