what kind of engine is this

Recently purchased a 87 camaro which had the motor swapped and I'm puzzled as to what the motor is. The engine stamp is V0429CLT which says its a 73 350. However the engine is nearly twice the size of my 305 and as I know the 305 and 350 share the same block. Not only are the heads width an extra 2 inches but it has center valve bolts which lead me to think its newer. This is way to confusing, do I have a frankenstein motor?

Thanks guys

p.s. didnt mean to add the smiley lol

Re: what kind of engine is this

How about putting a photo of that monster up??? Also take a look at the block and heads casting numbers. 305 and 350 and for that matter all first gen SBC share the same exterior block dimensions - hence great interchangeability! Also, all 1st gen SBC have siamese 3&5 and 4&6 exhaust ports. If your monster is different you do not have gen 1st gen SBC.

Re: what kind of engine is this

V0429CLT is a production order number - equipment specification and it is not a cast, but stamped with die punch. FWITW get a photo up a lot easier to ID that way.

Re: what kind of engine is this

looks like an sbc with late center bolt heads.

All sbc's should be the same size but aftermarket blocks can be had with a taller deck that'll make the whole motor wider.

Re: what kind of engine is this

eek. this is getting bad... the guys i bought it from said the original owners took the motor out of a junker. Is there any numbers on the block that would identify it properly besides the CLT one i found?

behind the drivers side head on the block is the number you need.

Re: what kind of engine is this

CLT is a 73 350 block. It's not hard to put center bolt valve cover heads on an early block.

Getting the casting number from behind the driver side head will probably only indicate that you have an 010 block.

Pulling a valve cover to get a head casting number will give information about the heads.
