Hello All

I have a 1983 transam with a 305 4 barrel. the problem i have been having is that on the highway the car will stall, no power from the gas. First time it happened i had to change the battery connection and starter. then i took it out again, drove smooth. But when i slowed down on the off ramp and stopped the idle revs where almost dieing. then i got back on the highway and when i crossed 50kmh the car shut off. this time it started after a minute rest then died again after i crossed 60kmh. I left it for 5mins and went and topped off the gas then cruised home at 100kmh and things were fine. Fyi i did push it a little at the start speed wise. if anyone can help thank you, i love this car. also i have an after market stereo in the car.

still having the same problem. can anyone give any ideas. now im losing power at maintained med speeds around 80. also stalled when idiling, restarted after 15 mins.

 

Could be a clogged fuel filter. Bad fuel pump. Bad ignition coil. Have you pulled any of the plugs to see what they look like? Is it a computer controlled Rochester? Do you hear the mixture solinoid clicking when you first turn the key on?

I am probably going to change the fuel pump, thats what the situation is soundling like. I dont know if it is a computer controlled rochester, how would i find out. I had new plugs installed when the overhaul/safety was done, but ill check them again. When starting it takes about 3 trys then she turns over, ill listen more closely for the clicking. Thanks so much for responding.

 

If the carb is computer controled it will have a 3-wire throttle position connector pointing out the front and another 2-wire mixture control connector on the top, front passenger side corner. Both actually going into the carburator body...I hate carbs.
