Crossfire intake questions
I came across a crossfire intake locally that the owner said came of a Vette. My knowledge of these intakes is slim to none.
How do you tell the difference between a F-body crossfire intake and a Vette crossfire intake?
Thx. in advance.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
Dokken10 the CFI intakes are the same for the F-Body's LU5 305 and the Corvette's (Y-Body) L83 350. The lids are the same for all years as far as I know. There are two versions of the intake base.
The first version has casting (P/N) 14031372. This one was used on the '82 Corvette and the '82-'83 F-Body.
The second version has a casting (P/N) 14057017. This one was used on the '84 Corvette and some late production '83 F-Bodys (mine has it - she was built 3rd week of June).
The only difference between the two is the '017 base has balance holes in the runners. These are supposed to equalize flow pulses but there is still some question as to them being beneficial. Both benefit greatly from port matching as they are 2/3 the head ports smoothing inner runners and clean up of casting flash.
I hope this helps you.

Thx. coolram62
This intake also comes with the TB.
Would the TB and injectors be the same from a F-body and the Vette?

Re: Crossfire intake questions
Dokken10 as Air_Adam noted the TBI assemblys are the same for both the LU5 305 and the L83 350 but the injectors are different. These are the P/N for the injectors for both motors provided they haven't been swapped out (ie:bigger injectors). The numbers are stamped and visible on the top of the injector under the pigtail connector.
'82-'83 LU5 305 Rear INJ P/N 5233765 , Color Code - Green
Front INJ P/N 5234255 , Color Code - Purple
82 & '84 L83 350 Rear INJ P/N 5233770 , Color Code - Yellow
Front INJ P/N 5233775 , Color Code - Brown
The intakes have potential but it does take time patience and a lot of work to get them to flow well. On the LU5 the other restriction is the exhaust as it was shared with the LG4.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
I appreciate all this info from everyone, especially coolram62.
I'm not into these intakes but I will probably buy it and sell it. I know these are getting harder to find and I hate to see good parts thrown away like this intake.
Thanks again everyone.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
I called the guy who has it and the base is 14057017 and the injectors are the 5233770 and 5233775.
So it came off a 84 Vette.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
Might be worthwhile just to hold onto it for awhile if you can get it cheap - they used it only for '82-83 in the F-cars, and '82-84 (was no '83) Corvette, so they are fairly rare. Could become a good collector/restoration part in a few years. Might be worth something, especially with the Corvette specific parts and if its complete.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
I think it'd be interesting to modify one of those to use two 305/350 TBI's and then port the crap out of it. Could make some power.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
I went and bought it today, I'm going to put it up on Ebay with a high reserve and see what happens.
I have no idea what these are worth.

Dokken you may also try the Crossfire injection Forum

Someone there may need an intake assembly. One Ebay you will find a very large price range when it comes to CFI manifold assemblys. I've paid between $25 to $50 plus shipping for the 3 manifold assemblys I bought off there the past four years. Do research what is currently on Ebay to get an idea for your startinf price.
Saabster these manifolds respond extremely well to porting. Biggest reason is the mismatch between the heads and intake. Smoothing the runners and cleaning casting flash really make a difference - the foundry castings were poor compared to most others. The TBI's themselves can be ported for larger butterflies which aslso increase flow dramaticaly.

Good thing I only paid $20 for it. They aren't worth anything.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
Dokken it's been a couple years since I bought an intake (2 were complete with TBI's and linkage 1 was just a base for my porting practice). The price has gone up some depending on how complete they are. If you could find a CFI harness/computor reasonably priced and do a combo package you could get a good deal more. It's amazing that some bring good money and some don't - it usually falls into 2 categories either someone doing a resto that needs a setup that's missing or someone needing a intake to port/modify.

Re: Crossfire intake questions
coolram62, I noticed that on Ebay. The range is from about $50 -$250.
I might be going back to work for Gulfstream in Savannah and we might be neighbors. I hate Atlanta and would love to move back to Savannah and the beach.
----------
I listed it on Ebay about a hour ago, so we will see what happens.
I have a real nice 84 Z28 roller, are you looking for anything for your 83?
