1982 firebird runs idles really high and shuts off

please if anybody knows where to start fixing ths car tell me ok first i bought the car and put a fuel line on it and it already has new feul pump all new wires plugs belts new vavle cover gaskets and the car started idled really high and jerked into gear so i drove it abut a block and it shut off wouldnt start for thirty min then i started and i managed to get it back home now the damn thing wont start at all and if you do start it you have to hold down the gas or it will cut off please if sombody could help i iknow it doesnt have original carb on it

if you take the fuel line off the carb do you get fuel? is it a elect. pump or mech?

I once had a problem with my 89 camaro not wanting to run. it acted like it was starving for fuel... it turned out to be a pluged inline fuel filter.

There were several different engines and fuel delivery systems available in 1982. What does your car have?
