Air cleaner Clearance issues?

I'm having issues with my hood hitting my air cleaner when I try to close it. I have an eldelbrock performer intake so its not a high rise, but I would like as big as filter as I can get for more air flow as possible so I was just wondering if the only thing to do is get a cowl induction hood. I would like to see a performer rpm intake on there too. Thanks

Get a K&N exteme top and a 2in air filter and then use a drop base air cleaner like james said and you should flow good and have plenty of room under the hood

That's interesting, I had a performer intake on my 305 and it didn't rub. Guess the camaro hood is flatter or ?

I was going to say drop base as well but the others beat me to it

Re: Air cleaner Clearance issues?

i too am having the same problem, after swapping my engine, intake, and carb i find out today my filter assembly that i kept wont clear the hood, its touching the air filter by the time the hood lock touches so im guessing i need about 2inces more clearance is this posible with these drop base filters ? also what size 14" or 16" and where can i find them ? Thanks.
