Which heads??

Hey all, I know I don't post here often, but when I need real advice, I come here (local car club is a bunch of ls1 dorks) Ok, I am going to get a new set of heads for the race car with part of my tax return. I am running protopline vortecs now, they are the small intake runner, 1.96 1.50 valves, and iron So my requirements for the new heads: aluminum, >190 intake runner, 2.02 1.60 or bigger valves, a 64cc or smaller chamber, and would like to see flow numbers greater than 265@.500 lift, angle plug would be best (runnin long tubes ) I was looking at the dart pro 1's, afrs are a little on the pricy side, and powerhouse heads. The powerhouse heads I can't find anyone with any experiance using them, are they a good quality? Do they flow as well as they say they do? Oh and lastly, I would like to keep them under the $1200 mark. Just looking for options, thanks guys!

Re: Which heads??

Go to Racing Heads Services on the net, they have a wide selection of heads, I have a set w/2.08 valves that flow those kind of #'s and love-em. They have a wide selection to pick from. Comp Cams has recently acquired them, they offer complete packages w/ or w/o valvetrain.

Re: Which heads??

The Trick Flows is what I always recommend when AFR's are too much, but I dont know if they're >$1200. I think they are though.

Darts are good, too.

I've never heard of Powerhouse heads.

These are the powerhouse heads.

I'll check out what kind of options rhs has.

Trick flow has like 50 diffrent options So I suppose I'll have to sort through them and see what would work for me.

Has anyone done any comparisons between the tfs and the darts?

Re: Which heads??

I would stick to one of the major head companies. Powerhouse as you listed is not one of them. Those are probably the same ones as the poorly casted Pro Comps.

Stick to Dart, World, Brodix, TFS, RHS (formerly Pro Topline, bought by Comp Cams). The known companies. I've dealt with them all, and they're all good stuff. I would take an entry level iron head from any of those companies before I would go to those 190cc's that you list.

Re: Which heads??

Have you look at summit racing? they have a set of 2.02/1.60 heads with a 64cc chamber, 200cc intake runner @$949. part # is SUM-162111 for more info. probably just a step below trick flows, but look like a good budget option.

Re: Which heads??

I would have to agree, stick w/ a known reputable co. AFR, Trickflow, RHS, Dart.... Ihave found out the hardway in the past. You get what you pay for! It's better to wait a little longer and spend the extra$, for a quality product.

Re: Which heads??

Thats what I came here for I'll stick with a name brand. I was looking for about 3 hours last night, and I REALLY like the afr 195 eliminators, they have awsome flow numbers. But they are close to $1500. I couldn't find any flow numbers on the trick flows (besides there 18* heads) does anybody know where to find flow numbers for the rest of their heads? Thanks again guys.

Re: Which heads??

Canfield makes an awesome head for the price. Mine cost under $1100 shipped to my door from Competitionproducts.com.

With the 195's right out of the box I'd say my car is making over 450HP at the wheels naturally aspirated based on its weight/mph - Keep in mind it's a pump gas street cruiser, nothing fancy.
