416 heads

Short question, can my 416 heads off my LB9 bolt on to a 350 block? I am getting work done to the heads for my 305. Later on though, I am going to rebuild a 350 that is in my garage. Can I use the 416 heads? Thanks guys.

Re: 416 heads

Yes the heads will bolt up and also assuming you have the right intake to match but its not genrally recomended performance wise.

Re: 416 heads

should work decently, just watch the compression. ...they would be a step up over camel-hump heads if thats what came on the 350

I would not starve a 350 that way...

Re: 416 heads

Okay, so it would not be a performance-wise decision. What about if I got the old smogger-heads that were on the 350 and had them shaved to up the compression. It has the old 78cc smog heads on it.

Re: 416 heads

Yes you can use them. They are good heads but like most factory heads will require some work to get good performance out of them. They are used often in some restricted racing classes.

So, how do you "starve" a 350 with 416 heads? With 1.94" intake valves, they'll flow the same as 350 heads because they have the same ports. (Since these 416's came off his LB9, it's safe to assume he already has an intake to match them.)

416's are a decent head when given the above-mentioned 1.94" intake valves and basic port clean-up. It's generally better from a performance standpoint to control compression ratio with dished pistons than with larger chambers. Therefore, with the same CR and all other things being equal, the 416's can not only hold their own against 350 heads, they are actually better than about 75% of factory 350 heads, Vortecs not included.

Re: 416 heads

Link to conversion info to use 8mm LS1 valves - to include the 416 heads.

That would be 76cc, but regardless, that's a waste of money. 416's would run circles around those heads.

Re: 416 heads

Misread the cc's Thanks for all your help guys! I talked to my buddy who builds race engines and he told me some more information too, so I am sticking with these heads. Thanks!

Re: 416 heads

putting aside that they will fit the block and intake, will the other parts, like the alternator, air pump, and the single serpentine belt hook up to later model cars, like my 90 camaro 305?
maybe i should start a link where everyone can list the different head mods and what hooks up and what doesn't?
