No Hot Starts...
Hello all, I am just now a new member of this page. I also just recently purchased a 89 Formula 5.7 with a 5 speed and 3.73 gears.... This car is a blast.... However there are several issues with the car and it will be a project for me and my boys for several years I'm sure. Anyway the reason I'm starting this thread is that this car whenever it get to operating temp, will not start.... Turns over but no catch.... I have already done several things to it... new cap rotor, TPS, cleaned the MAF, and the battery and alternator have checked out ok.... Car runs like a dream but I can't shut it off. If I do it wil not start for at least 20-30 mins.... Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Welcome to TGO!
Remove and test the ignition control module. They are notorious for failing when hot.

Re: No Hot Starts...
Been awhile.... I tried replacing the module....still no luck...
Two other things I was thinking/reading on. I just read about a guy having the same issue...Won't start hot... One of the reply's was a bad IAC. Another issue might be the alternator. It's not charging to capasity. The thought was it might be running on battery power enough to drain it a little, enough so it won't start until it recharges from sitting.... Any thoughts?

Re: No Hot Starts...
Batteries don't "recharge from sitting". IAC is a possibility. Try unplugging it and starting the engine hot. Can I assume this is TPI?
PS - I know this is off topic, but hopefully either the car's engine or transmission was swapped? There is no such thing as a 5.7 with a 5 speed from the factory.

Yes it was modified with the manual 5 speed.... I don't understand GM's thinking on that, I would think that the 350's would have came with the manual not the 305's...
Thanks for the reply I will try the unplugging thing...and yes it's a TPI.....
