Scratchin my head over Heads
I've got a 1971 Pontiac 350, bored to 355... Carb of course... I want to get Aluminum heads for it, and Bigger Cams seem to be a popular mod as well... I want as much power as humanly possible from this motor, without adders.
So, Is it alright if I ask for some help? Are there any threads I should read? (Of course I searched 'Aluminum Heads', and Read a little, but, none that related to Pontiac Motors...)
What do I need to look for when choosing heads?
Where's the best place to get them, for the lowest price? (Summit didn't have heads, And Jegs is Super Expensive...$600+S&H Each)
Are there any Heads I could interchange? Like, could I take an L98's heads and put them on this motor?
What do I need to know about Cam's, assuming I get the Heads?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Scratchin my head over Heads
ok you've got a lot of research ahead of you.
1971 pontiac engine is a pontiac engine, not a chevy engine. Verify that. If that's the case, you'll need pontiac heads. ($$$$).
pontiac cam ($$$$)
etc etc. That's the first thing to make sure of.
If I were you i'd sell that to someone who's restoring a 60's era pontiac, and needs a pontiac engine. The hassle of putting that into your current '91 firebird, and getting making good power, isn't worth it IMHO.

Unfortunatly, it's out of a 71 LeMans... I got it for $620, with a TH350, so... I duhno, thought I did good... What kind of prices are we talking with Alum heads for it, Any ideas? I'd like t scope it out before I slap it on Craigslist... Thanks in advance.

Re: Scratchin my head over Heads
hmm, I don't think you got a good deal...
Look on summit for heads for a 350 chev, then heads for a '71 pontiac 350 block.
I think you'll notice your available choices suck for the pontiac, prices are much higher, and stock isn't there. It's just not a great choice for where you're sitting now.
However a guy who's restoring his '71 Pontiac might want that numbers matching block and heads....

Re: Scratchin my head over Heads
Well, Summit doesn't sell Heads for this engine. haha.
I duhno... I guess heads aren't THAT big of a deal... This engine was rated at 380 FWHP out of the lemans... I guess there are other means of squeezing more Speed out of it then heads and Cam's... Maybe I'll find a deal along the way.

Re: Scratchin my head over Heads
So, I searched for Heads on Jegs... all the responces I got are heads for a SB Chevy... wtf? Not Bad Prices either... Should I buy a pair and try it?

Re: Scratchin my head over Heads
yeah, I called Jegs, they said there was no way at all they would fit, and that they'd revise the search engine soon...
