Synthetic Oil and Filter

I just switched to Mobile 1 synthetic oil. My new engine has about 55,000 km on it. Since the engine was installed I have done regular oil changes every 5000km with Quake State 15W40 and a Fram Tough Guard TG 30 filter. The place I bought the oil from said they have heard of a new filter coming out for synthetic oils. Is my Fram Oil filter OK?

I went back to GM's recommended weight of oil 5W30 with the synthetic oil.

Also, I searched and read about oil change intervals for synthetic oils and saw someone mention an oil analysis to determine when to change the synthetic oil. Could some one elaborate on oil analysis to determine change interval? I was thinking of 7000km to 8000km oil change intervals. However, if an analysis indicates higher interval without compromising engine lubrication then I would do that as this stuff is not cheap

The filter media does not have to be anything different for synthetic oil. How well the filter traps particles varies from filter to filter, and if you are going to extend the drain interval, a filter that gets out smaller particles and holds more particles is a good investment.

Oil analysis will tell you if the oil is still serviceable. Not sure what you'd have to pay for an analysis, but $25-$50 wouldn't surprise me.

The AMSOIL EoA filters have an excellent filter media that captures small particles, holds a lot of particles, but doesn't reduce flow. You might want to check into them.
