HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!! (not tech engine related, but this is the most active forum)
not sure where to put this but I desperately want a ninja zx6r but would need to sell my beloved IROCto get it.
talk me out of it.
right now i am in a bit of a thirdgen slump.
i am realizing that my motor is F***ed, my tranny is brand new, and still F***ed, my car squeaks even on freshly paved roads...
*sigh*
the list goes on.
right now i could sell the car for about 2K bringing the ninja into affordable territory and have a brand spanking new bike that will kick just about any car on the road, AND have a warranty, AND get 30 mpg, AND be capable of 170 easy
i need some help.
talk me out of this.
the point is, that if i keep the IROC, it will likely get either a LS1/T-65 or a gm Ramjet 350 and some power mods/T-56

I'm going to talk you out of it.
1. How much seat time do you have on a street bike?
2. Consider safety equipment (helmet, leathers or riding suit, gloves, etc.) into the cost of the motorcycle.
3. Have you taken a motorcycle rider safety course?
4. Maintenance cost are very high for a motorcycle. +$200 for a rear tire that will need replacement every 3k miles or so.
5. Insurance is very high. Especially if you're going to finance.
6. You'll need a motorcycle classification on your driver's license. I believe every state requires this.
7. If you're a gear head, you're going to want an exhaust system, ECM mods, carbon fiber and who knows what else.
9. Don't forget health insurance.
8. There are two kinds of motorcycle riders. Those that have been down and those that are going down.
9. Consider repair costs if you wad the machine and the increase in your insurance premiums.
Bottom line is the cost of owning and riding a motorcycle is a lot higher than just the cost of the machine.

heres one to think about
I dont care how good of a rider you are you need to worry about how good of a driver the other a$$holes on the road are!!!!
I personally lost 2 friends do to stupid drivers.
just remember that 95% of bike accidents are caused by the other driver and out of that 95% your looking at about a 85% fatality or paralyzing accident.
good luck and my god be on your side if you choose to get out of a car and get on a bike in any kind of populated area.

I'm not sure either, but since I don't see any content for thirdgen enthusiasts, I doubt this board is the place.

My largest (and only, not counting money) deterrent for owning a bike is other drivers. Around here they're complete idiots, I don't know how many times I've seen some soccer mom in a minivan force a bike out of his lane 'coz she fails at shoulder checking. Or pull out right in front of one. Seems like there's a lot of bike fatalities too, and usually end up being the other guy's fault. On that note, statistically we have the worst drivers in Canada here... but I'd recommend spending some time taking special note of how drivers are around bikes where you're at.

My buddy T-Boned a minivan b/c she did a rolling stop...he went thru both of the windows came out the other side with all his vitals in his neck falling out...luckily he lived but 15k in doctor's bills is a lot to pay for the price of having fun (her insurance company paid for it all but he got lucky)...was in a neck brace for 6 months and out of work for 9...
had another friend that was coming down a back road and over the knoll was a tractor pulling a disc...long story short it was a closed casket R.I.P. all my buds have bikes but the cost of insurance is more than the one's monthly payment and its a R6...trust me there are a lot of down sides to a bike...personally ill never own one i know id kill myself...
now what would you rather do beat some car on a bike u know is faster and you know the car stands no chance or the look on the guy's face thats on a bike that is looking at ur taillights??

Old bikes will not prepare you for what a new one will be like. The new bikes don't have any leeway for any little mistake you will eat the road ASAP don't kid yourself. I had my bike for over two years and never had an accident a few close calls you have to anticipate what is going to happen every second. Like dog run out or other animal cars won't see you ever. I have always had other bikes until I sold this last one. I would not recommend one to anyone these days now that people are on cell phones while they drive.
Well I had a 02 YZFR6 and that thing would kill anyone in seconds if you did not respect it. 0-60 in less than to 2 seconds, and I am 240lbs. I only took it up to 120mph on a long open back hwy once. All I can say is how do you like trying to hang on to something in 120mph winds. I am also old enough to know better. Don't forget what are you going to do when it gets cold or when it rains? Don't just go with the jacket and helmet that a dealer is going to give you. When I road I put on the best equipment I could get my hands on. Not cheap junk just depends on how much your life is worth. $100 helmet or $300 helmet, good jacket $100 that will last 25 feet on pavement or $300 full leather that will take one fall. None will help very much once you get hit head on, or you hit anything head on. Don't forget the leather pants $300, and boots $100 and gloves $50 and up. You can also get fingers cut off even if you just clip anything.
Oh and one more thing all that gear gets very hot in the summer.
Ok, I think that about covers BIKES on TGO.

Just an fyi. Insurance on my 2002 CBR 600 F4i was $2000 and I have a perfect driving record.
Also I dont care how good you are on a bike other people dont know how to drive cars. I had one soccer mom cut me off so bad I only had about 2-3 feet of road to drive on between her minivan and a utility pole. Sad part was she just waved to say she was sorry and I was thinking YOU ALMOST JUST ****ING KILLED ME BITCH! Long story short I don't own a bike anymore and will not be getting another one.
