intermediate shaft question (I DID A SEARCH TO NO AVAIL) LAST RESORT PLEASE HELP ME

okay so gm doesn't make them any more so i cant get one new from the dealership my old looks all tore up but most important of all the new steering column same year ect ect wont fit inside (slide in ) so i can bolt it down i tried a screw dirve in the hole but broke the screwdriver anymore ideas of how to widen the hole???? any help is greatly appreciated

I went through this a few weeks ago when I changed mine (for a good used one). The problem is that the bolt crushes the opening. I ended-up using a die grinder to open the hole enough to get it in.

how deep did you cut into it you would think that would be really dangerous

It was only the first 1/4" or so and around the bolt hole. I thought there was still lots of metal left, but you be the judge.

I think you might misunderstand. I used a die grinder with a cone shaped grinding wheel on it. I took metal from the inside of the collar. I didn't cut any part of it off. Much like you would do with a file if you had a lot of time and patience.

i gotcha now all you said was a die grinder i thought you cut a slit through both sides up to the hole which would work too but were could i get one of those cones

i just bored it out woth with the grindin cone got it at home depot for 2 bucks worked perfect who knew it would be that easy
