89 305 TBI installing mechanical oil pressure gauge need help

Ok so i searched and searched through different threads on the oil pressure switch and im honestly confused now. From what ive gathered there are 3 different oil pressure setups GM used throughout the years. #1 is just the bell style up by the intake, #2 was a combo of that bell and then the one above the oil pan and then in the 90's they came out with #3 which was just the block mounted one above the oil pan correct?

Im trying to install a mechanical o/p gauge on my 305 TBI. I dont know where to put it, if i pull the one from the block (which is the only one i saw) then i risk losing my fuel pump because the oil pressure switch wont allow the injectors to fire until it sense pressure

im posting up 2 pics, i need a legit opinion on this im thinking i can just get a t block, put it into the pan where the switch is (assuming thats the style) and run the stock switch on one side and the mechanical gauge off the other side

thie pix are kinda bad, i circled the switch above the pan though, its there lol

Help would be greatly appreciated

I guess you don't have the one off the block behind the intake. Does your switch above the oil filter have 3 wires? If so, it's built into that. If that's the case, I have something here you can have to mount your new gauge sending unit. Call me and we'll get that to you ASAP.

*Chris* i pulled the connector and it turns out it is the 3 pin deal.... the thing that confuses me is why its on my 89 i thought that was a 90-92 deal?

I like them personally, plus it matches my stereo and the overall goal for the car (fan of blue) you can see the difference between the superbright ones and then the dash are the ones i did myself, im gonna swap them out for the new ones once i order more, i also like the fact that ill be able to dim them lol

They combined the pressure sender and switch in the same component in 89. I have a way to get your new gauge to work without having to pull that component out.

you can run a tee block at one of the switches. done that several times without a problem.

Re: 89 305 TBI installing mechanical oil pressure gauge need help

We are going to try putting a tee block in the port behind the intake. We just have to remove a plug and put the block in. I have a single port tee block that came from an older T/A. We will get this done so the gauge works.
