If you have an 87-89 iroc-z 305 or 350 tpi with MAF system, mostly stock, I please ask you to test something.

Others can chime in if they have opinions on hypothetically what should happen:

Unplug all of the injectors' electrical connectors. Try to start the car. What happens? Crank only? Small fire then die?

 

If the coolant is below 104º, there should be a short shot of priming fuel from the cold start system. This might provide enough fuel for a few cylinders to fire.

Unplugging the injectors isn't necessary. You would only need to remove the INJ1 and INJ2 fuses.

 

So hypothetically, if I unplug the cold start injector AND all 8 regular injectors, the car should NOT fire at all, after maybe a few fires to purge the residual fuel?

 

or just disconnect the coil...
what are you getting at?
are you trying to keep the car from starting?

 

if the car does start with the injctors unpluged you have some bad injectors. i dont know if thats what you are looking for but whats the problem your having

 

I've been having an issue with my car (detailed out in another thread in this forum) and wanted a way to see if my injectors were leaking without having to remove them

 

you can just put a fuel pressure gauge on it, cycle the ignition on, and if it drops off, thats your problem.

 

i have an 87 and noticed one day while changing my plugs they had fuel all over them and when i shut it off and tryed to start it back a few mins later i had to crank and crank it b4 it would start the injectors were leaking fuel when i shut it off flooding it out i put in a new set of venoms and it starts great every time

 

It doesn't drop off it remains constant.

At one point I had a consistant 60psi for some reason but aside from that one random time it is always 40psi, unless the car is actually firing in which case it drops off by 5psi.

Is there a way to determine whether or not the ECM is bad by directly testing it? I don't have a scan tool or laptop to plug-in. Is there a practical way to determine it?
