power problem please i need all the help i can get
iv done a serch and cant find what im looking for there so here goes i have an 87 tpi rebuilt 40 over flat tops new 21 pound venom injectors factory cam with 1.6 roller rockers adjustable fpr headers port matched runners to intake and plenum and intake to heads.I had one bad head so i had to get a set that came off a ton truck they had some kind of swirl guide lookin thing in the intake valve chamber never saw that b4 but i didnt replace my roller lifters and they came out in 87 along with the cam and they bleed all the oil of over night and in the morning b4 i start it i can push the plugers down by hand very easy. After i start it and they pump up and the noise goes away for the rest of the day but could i be loseing lift and power there or will the oil pressure be enough to open the valve right?also the springs are from 87 to i put the ones from my heads on the ones i bought should i replace them because it just dont have the power it did when i got it.It was about 5 or 7 years old then and it would peg the speedo and keep going.i think it should have even a little more now than then with the 40 over bore and the 1.6 and other mods i mention.im going to put on some aluminum heads and probly a bigger cam in a year or so and was wondering what would be the best heads and cam for what i already had.please help im spending money after money with no results and getting disappointed badly i know its there thats keeping me going but i just cant find it.could an old egr cause power loss

The swirl port heads are the problem. Far more of a problem than you would ever imagine. Make heads, with good springs, the very next thing you do. Of course, it's easiest to do a cam when the intake is already off for the head swap, But you need to pick heads before cam.

Not so. I've driven a GTA that had the usual bolt-ons, swirl-port heads, and the stock PROM. I drove it again after switching to ProTopline 180 heads, no other changes. And I had both sets of heads on a new SuperFlow 1020 flow bench. Think about it. If the heads weren't the problem, there's no way the PROM that used to get him over 145 mpg would now be keeping him from it.

this has been comeing on slowly first it was maxed at like 120 then 110 then 100 and so on thats when i rebuilt messed up one head thats the only reson i even changed them but it seems like the rebuild made not much of a diff when i added the injectors they got my torque back just no top end

This can be explained by the lack of airflow due to the heads, plus plenty of fuel from the injectors ( which solved your lean misfire in the midrange ) and it's going rich up top, which definitely hurts power.
