engine probs
ok I had some probs with my car over winter. i pulled out the motor there was water in the oil. I cleaned it all up replaced the bearings and all the gaskets. the motor ran fine before i did all this. now I am having a prob with the motor when you step on the gas. it sounds like it is missing. if i just step on it it goes up fine. but if i try to hold a steady rpm (even 1500) it sounds like it is coughing. no backfires or anything. at idle it is rough but not bad. timming has been set a few times. valves had too.
over winter this is what i put in that is diff.
new wires and ac plugs
new bearings/ oil pump/ gaskets.
same cam
same heads(they were just rebuilt a year ago)
I don't know where to look.
I do have a msd 6al and a mallory dist. it is a edelbrock 1406 carb on a edelbrock single plane intake.

Any water in the oil now?
When you reassembled the motor, did you have the heads and the block decks checked?

Re: engine probs
If the motor itself seems okay, I'd be guessing but I'd check the fuel & spark area's and for a possible vacuum leak.

Re: engine probs
now i know some people use a spray for checking for vaccum leaks. was it carb cleaner or brake cleaner?

Re: engine probs
starting fliud is usually what i see being used here
although i use propane just unscrew the top of the torch head and put on a piece of hose. DO NOT LIGHT IT
propane is heavier then air so just start at the bottom of the intake and work your way up. when you here the rpms increase you found your vac leak.

Re: engine probs
It has been a while but i now need some help. I put a air fuel gauge in the car. when i start the car it is rich(like it should be) but as i rev the motor it slowly goes down to lean. all the way down. i smell gas i know i am running rich. and i can't get my afpr to go below 8 psi. so i am not running it for long. I am going to try a different gauge but i was wondering if anyone had this problem or knows what my issues could be.

Re: engine probs
the motor does run better now. the gas was bad. and i added some fresh and it does run better now it is just the prob of the gauge reading and the fuel preasure. its not perfect but it will run more like it should and i think it is either still some bad gas or i might need to adjust the valves or timing. I did the valves with the engine running. so i have to check the timing.
