Ignition Module
I took off the ignition module off my 91 camaro how do i check if it's Good? the reason i took it off is because my camaro won't start and i got a new ignition coil and still no new results but i researched it on the forums and stuff and people with my kinda problem got a new ignition module and it fixed it. But i dont want to drop 40 bucks on a new one (high schooler going paycheck to paycheck) and wanted to know if there is any test to see if it's good or not?

Re: Ignition Module
There are many modules in your module (ie, it does several things!).
You can't just meter it or something if that's what you're asking.
Most places like NAPA have module testers (well, so do I, but...) and will check stuff out for you. One thing to remember though, is that they'll be testing it at room temperature, and not under load. It's still possible for it to check out OK, but to fail in a real world situation.
Shall we assume you checked for spark during cranking, got none, and that's why you targeted your module for your no-start?

Re: Ignition Module
yes you shall assume that and be correct. so like autozone would have something to test it but it won't test it under load? which means....

Re: Ignition Module
They'll test it, but as I said... it's on a bench.
It's different when it's heat soaked from the engine, and it's actually switching the coil (the worst part of it's life).
It'll give you a start though. It might just show up as bad! It IS a high failure rate part. You could also just get a junkyard one and try it.
Make sure you use a THIN layer of heat sink compound on it (just like a CPU) after cleaning the two mating surfaces.

Re: Ignition Module
Whenever I get in one of those, I always change the module and the pickup coil. They should both be <$20 each. Clean the shaft while you have it apart and make sure there is no wobble in it. Don't forget the heatsink compound under the module.

Re: Ignition Module
Take the dist out. Drive the rollpin out of the gear and remove it. Pull the shaft out of the dist. The rest is obvious. The new module should some with compound to put under it.

Re: Ignition Module
I am now missing wires.
one of the wires that plugs into the Ignition coil is like totally destroyed and then there a wire that goes into another part under the ignition coil that is missing a wire totally and then lastly two vaccum pipes just kinda fell out of under the header/ Dist area....any help on where to find/fix these wires?
