Re: PLZ HELP FAST!!!!!

Call a parts counter and ask for the camshaft or replacement engine description for a fast answer if the engine is the original that came in the car.

Re: PLZ HELP FAST!!!!!

If your engine is original, it is not. GM started using roller motors in these cars in 87.

Re: PLZ HELP FAST!!!!!

if you are stock you cam is probably hydraulic flat tappet. they were stock up to 1986 and were limited to about 6500 rpm. from 1987 up they were hydraulic roller. but everything depends on the year of the engine. if you are sure it is stock then it is hydraulic. you can pull the intake and look into the valley - if there is a spider in the valley over the roller it is roller and if not it is flat tappet.

thx guys. i know how to identify them with the intake off, just didnt want to go that route to replace the timing chain, as far as i know its the original engine. just was wondering if there was a way to tell before i get parts and end up with the wrong ones.. good info to know though, thx again..

Re: PLZ HELP FAST!!!!!

Look on the pass side front of the engine block on front of the head where your alternator is and theres a set of numbers. Write them dowm and cross reference them on nastyz28.com and it will tell you everything you need to know about your engine.
