Fel Pro 1094 upside down

I just finished torqueing down a trick flow head and I went on this website to check something else out. I saw where the felpro 1094 head gasket (shim) is supposed to have the felpro writing facing toward the head. I did mine upside down. I finished the 2nd head with the gasket facing correctly. Do I have to undo the 1st head and turn the gasket around? Do I have to replace the gasket? Does it matter with the shim type gaskets? They do have ribs on them.

Re: Fel Pro 1094 upside down

I used the same gaskets on my setup and if I were you I would replace it simply because these gaskets are embossed. I could be wrong but I just personaly can't take a chance with something as important as a head gasket. With them being embossed I'm sure when torqued they crush down somewhat to help for sealing.

Thanks, I pretty much knew the answer but I was hoping I didnt have to do that head again. My arms are still sore. 70 ft/lbs of torque is alot when using a shorter torque wrench.

Re: Fel Pro 1094 upside down

no prob man, also I don't know what head bolts your using but technicaly you should replace them too if they are torque to yeild bolts. Personaly, I would re-use the bolts and not even worry about that.

I feel your pain about the torqueing too. Of course I did mine in three stages building up to 70 lbs. I have been doing it that way for years without coming back and re-torquing and have never ever once had a gasket leak. And I abuse the chit outa my motors.
