Power loss when pressing gas

It started out when I start my car in the morning if I press the gas peddle to rev the engine the rpm's go down instead of up and its like all the engine power cuts out. After it warms up its will usually stop doin this until recently. I was on the highway this weekend and when I tried to gun it and pick up some speed it seemed like the engine shut down completly, but when I took my foot off the gas it cut back on and started working normal. I did it a few more times and it did the same thing every time,
anyone know what could be causing this?

Re: Power loss when pressing gas

had something close to this. fuel pump is what it ended up being.

check fuel pressure like i did and drive it and see what the pressure is when it does that.

Re: Power loss when pressing gas

I would do that but my fuel pressure gauge isnt working now. I took off the Air Intake Temp. Sensor to clean it, and it seemed like after that it just stay maxed out now. So I dont know what to do about that?

It you're willing to take your time with it, a rebuild is pretty cheap to do yourself.

Re: Power loss when pressing gas

Yea, I would do that but my car is Tuned Port Injected, I dont have a carb. When My carb shot out in my 69 chevy truck I rebuilt it in about 4 hours had it running again, simple enough. Wish this one was carbed though, Thanks anyways.

Re: Power loss when pressing gas

Check your throttle position sensor voltage. Closed throttle, wide open, and everywhere inbetween engine off key on. Should be ~0.5V to 4.5V closed to open and transition smoothly as you open the throttle.

Re: Power loss when pressing gas

I don't know if the '88 305 is MAF or not. If it is, check for any leaks after the MAF. Could be a problem with the MAF as well.
