new cam question?
Re: new cam question?
If it is a roller cam you don't have to break it in. If it is a flat tappet you can run any 30 weight oil and get a bottle over break in oil from Lucas or any company like that. Or you can use any racing oil but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it around $4.99 up a qt. A bottle of Lucas will cost around $10 or so. Here is a link to what you would need. http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...show&headTitle= - Engine Break-In Oil Additive - TB Zinc Plus
Also on a side note you will need to add it to every oil change to protect your flat tappet cam.

I alwasy use Joe Gibbs break in oil!! Todays oils do not have the zinc that u need for proper break in with a flat tappet cam. Make sure u atleast use some kinda break in additive if your going to use reg oil.

Re: new cam question?
Thanks I'm installing a summit 1107 flat tappet cam (.488/.510 lift), along with there valve springs lifters and double roller timing set. I also swapped out my summit stage1 intake for an eldderbrok performer rpm. I'm going to just go ahead and run a full break in oil instead of running just an additive now.
Seems to be the safe way to go. Sorry for asking such a simple question, I just don't want to end up wearing down cam lobs because I did not do a proper break in.

As of right now 100% Junk, 462624 76CC low comp, smog junk. I understand low compression and this cam are not the best pick but the heads are coming off soon anyway.
I'm going to be running the 210cc pro comp heads with 64cc Chambers in a few mouths here.

Re: new cam question?
The 1107 has too much lift for factory castings, you'll be hitting the bottom of the retainer into to the top of the guide bosses. About .470-.480 is the max number on stock heads.

Re: new cam question?
do you think I could get away with running the sum-1105 465-488 lift for now with the stock castings?
Or what cam would you recommended for now? I have $300 to get started on a cam swap.

Re: new cam question?
You might be able to get away with the 1105, esp. if the intake sides have the positive style seals, and the exhaust sides do not. However, without exact measurements, I generally recommend that both sides are kept under the .480 marker.
Personally, I wouldn't bother changing cams if you're changing out cams in a short while - you'll just end up wanting to change out cams again, then. Just sit it out and when you get the new heads, get the cam that most benefits then.
