where does this vacuum line go to?
Hi,
First, a quick note of thanks to everyone - I've been able to fix every problem on my 87 5.0 TPI Firebird up to now with all the great info on this board....
OK, so I changed my A/C to R134a and finally got cold air for the first time in years... now I am fighting the problem of the air only coming out of the defrost vents.
Checking under the hood, I found 2 vacuum lines disconnected. One I was able to figure out where it went, the other I cannot.
The line is connected to something - I do not know what it is (see picture)... can anyone help? Thanks!

scroll down and you'll find the 2 diagrams.
TPI OWNERS, I need a little help please. Hoses and lines issues.
I need some help too. on one of the last pictures, it shows on the back of the plenum, a small male fitting that is supposed to go to the HVAC. Can you provide me a picture of your HVAC vac line?

Littleton CO.... I lived in Co Sprgs for 4 years then moved to Greeley for 1 year then moved back to CA. I would love to go back to CO.

Check and see if the plastic ball underneath the driver side tray there, under the cruise control canister has the vacuum line attached... if not, that is the line for it.
Edit- that thing you put "what is this" is for your cruise control I believe, the plastic ball underneath is for vacuum.

Re: where does this vacuum line go to?
What about charcoal canister - on the camaro's there is a black canister about 5 inches in diameter on the driver side where the battery is at on pass side. There is a vacuum line runs to it I believe. The canister grabs fuel fumes every so often (ECM controlled) and holds them.

'fraid not... on the firebird, the charcoal cannister is on the passenger side front, and I have been able to check all the lines from it are connected properly. thanks

Re: where does this vacuum line go to?
update: I think that line is supposed to go the "orb of power", the vacuum reserve cannister. I found it under the battery tray (driver's side on the firebird), and it appears there is nothing connected to it. I am going to remove it and see if I can get it hooked up.

Re: where does this vacuum line go to?
I was unable to get the "orb" out do to corrosion of the bolts holding it (sitting right under the battery).
So i just pulled the line to the orb and pushed it in the side. It seems to be in there pretty good, but the AC is still blowing only from the defrost vents. bummer.
I will pull the climate control unit this week and see if there is a leak there....
thanks for the help everyone!

Re: where does this vacuum line go to?
FirebirdFanatic , yup, thats the one Im reffering too. My HVAC unit doesnt work (no heating or AC). So with that said, can I just block it off or does it have to be connected? I asume that it goes into the firewall on the passengerside right? Or does "the bundle" mean the wiring harness? Thanks.

Chevy86 IROC-Z -
if you've got no heat or A/C coming out of any vents at all, then you don't have a vacuum issue. The vacuum line only controls which vent 'door' opens/closes to direct the air flow. When no vacuum is available to open/close these doors, the default is to blow out the defrost vents. If you have no air blowing anywhere, you may want to check into an electrical issue with your blower motor.
