Re: 86 camaro over heating,help
does fan come on? at what temp? single fan, or dual fans? overheat while driving hiway, or in traffic/standing still? fluid is 50/50 water/coolant? overheating (ie boiling), or just getting hot? Have A/C or defrost turned on? What is timing set at?
Need more info.

Re: 86 camaro over heating,help
turn the fan on at start up(toggle switch),single fan infront and clutch fan on motor, over heats while driving(all speeds) and at stand still, mix is about 75% coolant and 25% water,no ac,heater motor is stuck on(low) and not sure about the timing, when the motor gets hot it starts to ping under a load

Re: 86 camaro over heating,help
ok. So I'm at a loss then.
You have the air dam under the car, right?
The thermostat - I know it's new, but it still may not work. Try taking it out, and boiling it in a pot on the stove to see if it actually opens.
Only other thing I can think of is waterpump - is it leaking? (little hole on backside at the bottom) is it correct model for this car? (there are standard rotation and reverse rotation pumps)

Maybe try a cooler t'stat? I never heard of a fan set-up like that. Some say no t'stat is the worse thing to do. As far as knowing if the CORRECT waterpump is on, I don't know how to tell the dif just by looking at it. Anyone know what year the reverse pump was used? Do you have a shroud of some kind?

Re: 86 camaro over heating,help
After reading another thread on over-heating--- do both fans PULL from the front, forcing the air across the motor? If they turn dif directions ( 1 PUSHING air to the front of the car the other PULLING from the front to make the air flow toward the motor ) then it's creating an oven ahead of the rad with no air circulating. Do either of the rad hoses collapse when the motor is @ normal temp when you rev the motor? Soft hoses also restrict flow. If you don't have the lower air deflecter,do you have the big plastic piece that goes between the front end & rad? It directs air into the rad. That's all I can think of.((edit)) What pressure cap is on the rad? Is the rad for a V6 or V8?
