Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

i just purchased a remanufactured engine from jaspers. i dont want to void the warranty by using the old oil cooler. i tried to clean it the best i can but im still worried about metal particles getting into the new engine. can i remove the cooler and attach the oil filter to the adapter that the cooler attaches too. (i really dont want to eliminate the cooler but i also dont want to void the warranty)

Yes, you can remove the oil filter and use something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SES-3-60-08-900/

Then just cap off the coolant lines.

Re: Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

The factory oil cooler lines are for COOLANT, not the oil.

Metal shavings or not, from your old engine, they can't possibly be in the oil cooler lines.

Re: Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

i realize there wouldn't be metal on the antifreeze side of the cooler. But on the oil side of the cooler I was getting alot of gunk out of there when I was cleaning it out. i don't know if I got it all.

Re: Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

I'd flush it with a liquid (in both directions), not just air. Or you could just buy a new one, if you wanted to keep a cooler. Aftermarket makes them too, not just GM.

Re: Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

are you talking about the transmission oil cooler located in the radiator?
that has no effect on the engine oil.
i have also never seen a radiator with engine oil cooling tubes in it, but i guess anything is possible.

what exactly are you talking about?

Like this......

It allows coolant to flow through the spin on adapter, to provide another level of cooler, but directly to the oil itself.

Some 3rd gens came with them stock, most didn't.

Re: Eliminate Engine Oil Cooler

ok well if thats all it is, then no problem.
take it off and be done with it.
OR
get a new one, get a new cooler, and run it that way.
ive never seen a car come with one of those stock but anything is possible in the wide world of GM i suppose.
what do you have for a cooler anyway?
