CAR WONT START! HELP!

Hey, i own a 71 chevelle that i put an '85 trans am 305 tpi into. I then converted it to the '86-'89 setup. The other day i was welding on my car and i sure enough forgot to disconnect the battery (let alone turn the key from on to off) the next day my car would start for a split second then die off, and wouldnt even start for that split second again for awhile. I figured i musta done something to the computer, which is fine because i had all the materials to convert my car to MAP. I did so, and replaced the fuel pump 12v fuse, and the car does the same thing. Could this be a fried alternator, or something more elusive? Please Help!!

Ok, ive checked a few things, and it seems as though im not getting any voltage to the injectors, anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?

Re: CAR WONT START! HELP!

i found out its because my ecu isnt grounding my injectors, and all my grounds are secure. Do you think it could be vats? because i got both my new ecu and prom online and it didnt tell me whether it had it or not.

When you get home, pull a spark plug and press the tip up against the block and turn the car over to see if you have spark. If you do, then another test that i did was to pull an electrical plug from one of the injectors, and using a voltmeter, test the voltage during cranking.

Re: CAR WONT START! HELP!

I did the tests i told you about, then turned to key to the on position, and tested the voltage of the injector wires all the way up to the point where they enter the ecu. The ecu controls the injectors by grounding them. This gives them their normal pulsation. My ecu isnt allowing my injectors to pulsate, and im now positive that its vats.

Iv'e read online that vats is on every 90-92 camaro and firebird, and can fail at any time (so this might possibly be your problem too). I just upgraded my system to this setup and i dont have a vats bypass module, so im looking for a way to get one or replicate one.

Re: CAR WONT START! HELP!

Well strangly enough when I got home it started right up. I have no clue what it was doing this morning. But at least I know now what you tried the next time I have that issue.
