key gets stuck in ignition

So my new trans am has a few quirks im slowly working out, this particular problem is quite annoying and started out happening maybe once a week to almost three or four times daily.

What happens is my key does not come out, it stops turning about a half a centimeter from the line on the ignition that allows the key to pull out of the ignition. The car is in park, i have tested it to make sure. I originally thought this was a problem with the cable from the gear selector to the transmission as this was replaced about 2 months ago. The remedy to this problem seems to be either starting the car and turning it off, which only works sometimes, also selecting through the gears from 1-P seems to work sometimes also. Any ideas on what this is?

Thanks
Chris
