To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

well, i now got 150k on the clock got a little bit of start up smoke (but hey thats chevys pre start-up lubercation ) anyway oil psi runs about 20-25 at idle (at oper. temp) and about 35 cruising, i am running 15w50 mobile 1 , personaly i think the engine has enough on miles on it to run a heavy oil and its driven like a car should be

i have had it since 100k / 8 years ago, i think the p.o. ran quaker misteak because it has some sludge in it when you pop the vc's off

so should i flush it with engine flush it (gunk, diesel, trans fluid) or should i just let it be

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

i have flushed engs. on all my cars/trucks about twice a year . ( as old as i am i have had a few ) anyway on our cars sludge build-up is a problem on the drain holes of the cylinder heads . when they become sludged up oil can't drain as fast as it should back to crankcase . the drains are at the lower front and rear of the cylinder heads . next oil change , pull valve covers , clean drains with screwdriver-probe-what ever is handy . then blow compressed air through them . re-install valve covers , add flush agent , run car reasonable for a few miles , change oil . has worked for me . good luck .

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

I'd "flush" it slow.
At next oil change put in 1 quart of synthetic and the rest dino juice.
Next change - 2 quarts of synthetic and the rest dino juice.
Next change - 3 quarts.............

Get the picture?

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

Then as long as you're religious about changing your oil, you shouldn't need to flush.
Any gunk that is in there will work itself out with the synth.

Do it if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
I seafoamed one of mine and didn't get the wonderful smoke storm that many here claim to get.

It won't smoke if you didn't need it.

They say that it smokes more when your engine is cruddier... so if yours didn't smoke much that probably means it was already pretty clean.

I'm just reiterating what you're saying LOL.

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

I restricted a vacuum line at the throttle body. I wanted it to hit ALL runners not just the last couple by using the brake booster line.

yea than your engine was pretty clean . . . . . . . . .seafoam is the closest you going to get to something like BG that they use a the stealership

you can seafoam the oil to get the crud out but engine flush is cheaper and works better, plus i rather use seafoam through my intake

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

I've run Mobil 1 10W-30 in my car since it was new, first oil change at 1000 miles, then every 5 to 10K so it don't have any crud inside, but I have used 1 qt. of automatic trans fluid on a few other vehicles and it seems to clean really good, drive it for a week and then change fluid. I tried Seafoam on my Camaro a few years ago by pouring it directly down the throttle body bores and didn't get much smoke at all.

Re: To flush engine, Or not to flush engine

The old transmission fluid trick is bogus. The gunk stuff works but why bother if things are working well and pressures are good.
