Swap 1989 auto,to 1992 5-speed steer column???

I don't really know what board to post this to,so i will try here.

I have a 92 5-speed v8.
Can I take a steering column out of an 89 automatic and swap it to my 92 5-speed?
I will also have to change out the key portion of the switch.
The key is missing from the 89,so i was just gonna use my key part of the 92 column.
Will this all work ok in my 1992 camaro?

I was not sure where to post this question so I will post it here and there, everywhere?

Thank you all for the help.
I am really getting down in the dumps over not being able to drive my stick shift.
It is my favorite car and I keep having bad luck with it.

Thanks for any info on this swap,
jd

I believe it will work not 100% but why do you want to replace the column? Theres not a lot that can go wrong with them and it might be able to be fixed rather than just replaced.

Re: Swap 1989 auto,to 1992 5-speed steer column???

well,good question i guess.
what happened is the switch somehow got stuck on the accessory side.
and i had noticed that the column was kinda wiggly so when the mechanic
was taking it apart the bearings just fell out.
i think it was just worn out for some reason.
not really sure but the 89 was a little diffrent as far as the wires, but i think he is gonna be able to get it hooked up for me.

i hope so,cause this 84 z28 is about to gas me to death.
what makes a car that runs so good drink gas like a fish drinks water?
that's another thread i guess.

thanks for all your replies,
jd
p.s.if i have anymore problems i will ask em right here.

Well if your mechanic is sure that it wont be able to be reassembled i gues replacement is your only option. Course im assuming its a tilt steering coulm they do get loose from time to time and just need to be tightened back up. But again without knowing if something actually broke causing it to fall apart or if it just loosened up and fell apart i wouldn't be able to say weather its repairable.

As far as your other question your right probably another thread but since im already replying might as well. Theres really a lot of problems that can cause a car to run "good" and still use a lot of fuel. Question is how much fuel are you really using and im assuming you've checked for leaks?
