Engine runs like *** when cold.
I have had my car for over a year now and was never able to get the problem sorted out. Its a 1988 350TPI, when I start the car I am forced to let it sit until it reaches about 120 degrees. Otherwise it hesitates, and runs real ruff until it gets there. It sounds like **** also. I have replaced the fuel pump, water pump, alternator, MAF, spark plugs, cap and rotor, and wires. The car has a hypertech chip in it, and that made no difference. It did the same thing with the stock chip in it. Once the car gets warm it runs just like a brand new car, but cold it is horrible. Any ideas??? I mean my car has 82,000 miles on it and my dad has a 91 silverado truck with a 350TBI that has 140,000miles on it, and You can just jump in that thing and go. It pisses me off..

Ok, so if I take out that sensor, How much coolant is going to come out If I don't drain it? I want to just take it out and put the new one in quick. Its only $11.99 at checker so I am going to do it.

Just put a 2-1/2 gallon bucket under the drain **** and drain it down a bit. You might only lose a quart or two pulling the sensor and putting the new one right back in, but then you won't be able to properly clean the threads, etc.
Doing it right once usually takes less time than doing it over.

haha I know, I really don't like to do things half ***, but I just really don't feel like draining the coolant lol. I guess I will have to, is the petcock on the drivers side?

Does it sound to you too like that's what it is? It idles fine when you start it, and there are no problems. But when you try to drive it it hesitates and drives like **** till its warm then its 100% fine

Re: Engine runs like *** when cold.
its not for sure the cts...but can cause it because when the engine is cold it needs a rich mixture to run properly...just test the sensors resistance u should have a high resistance when cold...i dont know the spec though

I replaced the CTS. The first time I started it up after I installed it the engine wanted to stall out. I turned it off after about 10 sec, and restarted it and it was fine. I tried to drive it cold and it still ran bad... I don't know what to with it anymore, Any ideas?
