Blew a Serp belt...

I have a major problem here.. All I need is a PN for a belt. I blew a belt beating on my car it was just waiting to happen. Anyway There is still a belt hooked up from it looks like a smog pump pulley (Bottom Left) to the water pump. I don't have A/C but the pulley is still there.. There also is another belt from the crank to power steering. So my question is what is there 3 belts? The 2 that are on there are small and the alternator one that is missing looks bigger. I don't know what belt to get or how the hell to put this one on... Very odd. I will get pictures later if neccessary. I just need some help here so I can drive again!

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

Okay first of all Seems you have V belts. Not serp. But need pics to confirm this. Unless your like my car. And it has a serp belt for the alternator to water pump and to the crank pulley and a v belt to the crank pulley to the power steering pump.

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

Okay from the third gens I own (86&92) the 92 has one and it's just a serpintine belt that drives all and it it's adjuster by the belt tensioner (which you use a 3/8 drive ratchet to untension while u replace the belt) and the 86 has three belts and to adjust the tension on the the SERPINTINE belt (not v- belt) is to adjust the alternator on the bracket.

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

I guess if there is one that goes straight from alternator to crank. This is a new car my other is a 305 TBI which has ONE belt. The power steering is connected to the crank already I think. The A/C does not need to be included im actually gonna take out the compressor so I need the right sized belts.

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

It looks like the thicker belt that I need that goes from Alternator - Crank - Water Pump but I need PN and I don't know how to route it. When it blew off it looked like the smaller belt but maybe it just blew into maybe pieces cause I did N-BOMB it... lol

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

here is the belt routing on an '82-87 pulley setup(mid
'85-87 has the serpenine style alt belt)
from front of car back:
-1st groove of W/P pulley: smog pump
-2nd groove of W/P: alt and ist groove of crank
-3rd groove of W/P:2nd groove of crank,A/C,1st groove
p/s pump(don't need this belt if not using A/C)
-3rd groove of crank: P/S pump,2nd groove of pulley

Re: Blew a Serp belt...

Why not just take a string, wrap it around the pulleys you need the belt for, measure that length, and go to any parts store and get that length? no need for a part number - just tell them the length and how many ribs for the belt. this is way too easy and all of you are trying to make it hard - the part number for the belt ig going to be XXyyXa - where the X's don't matter, the yy is the length, and the a is the number of ribs.
