preheater hose is ultra hot

its a 1986 base firebird v8 305. so when i parked the car and turned the key off, i saw smoke seeping out of the hood. i checked the temperature guage and it was like 190. after i opened the hood, i saw smoke rising over the air cleaner and eventually found the source (preheater hose) the hose was so hot i couldn't touch it for more than a second without dropping it. how do i fix this problem?

Re: preheater hose is ultra hot

Is it really a problem? The 190 degree temp is normal. And no, I wouldn't be able to put my hand on a hose that temp for very long either. But, which hose are you referring to? "Pre-Heater" doesn't exist on cars.....

Re: preheater hose is ultra hot

well i mean i don't see damage being done but still...smoke coming out of the hood worries me. its the matallic looking hose that connects from the vaccum to a part of the block on the engine. sorry i thought thats what the hose was called

Re: preheater hose is ultra hot

You may have just spilled something on it, or maybe it was just steam from running over a puddle.

I would be , it is connected to the exhaust manifold

Re: preheater hose is ultra hot

Thats the heat riser

Its not connected to the exhaust gasses at all. It is the tinwork surrounding the manifold, when the manifold gets hot the air around it also gets hot and rises up and is fed into the engine to accelerate warm-up

Any smoke rising from the area is from something falling on a manifold and melting
