Roller Rocker Arm Question???

There are 2 different types of Roller Rockers
1. Roller Tip
2. Full Roller

What is the difference between these two? Im goin to assume full roller are better but is it really worth the big difference in price? Its only a mild 305 with a mild cam.

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

Depends what your looking at for a budget, roller tips are better than stock and usally $115 or less full rollers are more expensive usally $250+ but you can find them used (I sold a set of 1.6 gmpp new in box w/ locks for $180 shipped IIRC) for alot less. full rollers are better when getting into higher lift cams and also its less where and tear and some are completely rebuildable so you can truly own them for the rest of your life regardless of motor.

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

Roller Tip: Only the contact point on the valve stem has a roller.

Full Roller: Tip has roller, and also, the pivot point, where you normally just have the ball type pivot, also has roller bearings. Reduces friction, eliminates a possible wear point, and is just better.....

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

If your not going to do anything else to the motor in the future
or upgrade, HP to dollar not justified.

You could take that $120.00 and invest in a good tuneup or
spark upgrade.

Although going from 1.5 to 1.6 roller tip would add a little for
the price.

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

Simple answer, its going to give you .1 more lift at the cam as the roller
tip end is that much longer.
Save up for better upgrades.

thanks everyone, and for future reference will the 1.6's or 1.5's for that matter fit under stock centerbolt valve covers?

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

Two motors ago had a set of Comp 1.6 roller tips under
my center bolts.
Those are vette heads but no valve cover mods.
Comp 1.6.
Also had them on my Iroc iron heads before going to the aluminum vette's.

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

Stock height. Yep. You have to go with narrow body rockers though, else you run into clearance issues elsewhere.....

Re: Roller Rocker Arm Question???

depending on the rocker arms you may have to modify the valve covers,,, due a search and youll find everything you need to know about the rocker arms and valve cover mods.
