check engine light
Is there anyone out there with a similar problem? Crank up the tpi 305 and the engine light stays on, then try to check the codes, but it won't even flash the 12 code, it stays on constantly. The manual says if this happens there is something else wrong that needs to be fixed BEFORE it will give out codes. WTF? I thought the they were for diagnosis and troubleshooting the problems. Could the ECM be going out, or the MAF? Maybe the EGR solennoid? I'm outta options and I can't just throw money at a problem and hope I get it right. It runs good with the light on, but when it DOESN'T stay on, it lopes and sputters and occasionally shuts off.

Tried disconnecting the battery for 6 minutes and clearing the codes? This might take you back to square one, and then see if after a few drives any codes reappear.

Re: check engine light
do you have a GM service manual? If not, I'll dig mine out and see what it has to say on teh subject. I'm pretty sure the lack of a code 12 is a sign of a ECM fault

Re: check engine light
I'm going to swap fuel filters this weekend, but I don't know if that will do much. I think I need a full diagnostic run on someone's scanner. I just don't have the experience with the computer hardware to run a laptop into it and see if I can get anything. Just call me a shadetree mechanic at best....

Still the same old problem. Wondering whether or not the EGR solenoid is failing. I just don't know enough to really dig into things. I love my TPI, but all of the extra wiring involved just runs circles in my head. Possibly my vacum hoses might be old and in need of replacement, or the MAF is on the way out. How do I check it? Since there are no codes, repeat NO codes stored, my scanner says there are problems I have to correct BEFORE it will store codes. I need a beer.....

Re: check engine light
Well, I got it on a scanner today. Shows 2 hard faults. MAF relay, and MAF sensor burn-out. I have been told that the IAC can cause both of these code faults to show up, but I'm not sure. I can get the IAC to replace, but the relay is a hard item to find. No parts houses around here can even get one. Time for Ebay. Any ideas?
