Building 383 Need Top end advice .
Right now i have a 383 shortblock , it has a 4 valve relief piston , im not sure on the dish but im guessing 10 cc ?
Im trying to decide what I want to do for heads , cam , intake , carb. i am on a little bit of a budget .
For Heads im looking athttp://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-12304-01/
For Cam im thinking the 280h comp cam
Intake : Performer RPM
Carb : Not sure , would like some ideas.

Use the heads with the 64cc chamber, and use Use the comp XE 284....or preferrably the Voodoo 61015. If for for some reason you think that may be too much for you, then step down to the 60104....

Re: Building 383 Need Top end advice .
whats your hp goal? whats the rpm range you want to do?
If you go those iron heads, dont spin up too much past 6500, as those heads wont support much over that. Should peak near 6300-6400 but the 200cc port size may start to become a restriction for more rpm.
If you spin up that high you are probably looking for 500hp on motor.
Intake,i'd go single plane if you do the above rpm range and want lots of hp.
Cam, something in the low 240 deg range for a flat tappet type cam.
Watch your compression ratio with iron heads and those pistons. Could be over 10.5 to 1 and thats generally not pump gas friendly with Iron. I'd stay around 10 to 1 with Iron heads.

I would like to see a good 400hp out of it . Its going into my d.d .
I would like to keep the compression at 10:1 or less .
What would the compression be with the 72cc chamber ?
As far at rpm range goes i would like to keep it under 6500

Im not doubting your advice at all because i am fairly new at this , but why do recommend those cams over the 280h ?

that looks like a strong combo to me. 9.64:1 compression. if those pistons are 10cc dish. thats with a 0 deck clearance and a very common felpro .041" headgasket

i would go with a dual plane and a hyd roller cam for a dd. let me see...something like the ZZ4 cam but a little more aggressive.

I was looking at the prices of the roller cams/lifters i think it would be best if stuck with Hyd flat tappet .

i think z28freak recommended a comp extreme energy cam because its a newer profile which means more R&D=better

Look for a cam to peak near 5600-5800 for a street car. No need to go over 6000.
Use a dual plane intake, cam around 230 degrees on the intake. Should do well over 400hp but be very streetable

400 is easy to do with a 383. Keep compression in the mid to high 9's to 1 with iron heads. 64cc chamber on a zero deck block will want about a 16cc dish.

Well i dont want to change pistions since i have a solid bottom end .
Is there anything wrong with using these heads that have a little bigger chamber ?

IS it a 4 valve relief flat top? Probably 7cc perhaps.
If thats the case, i'd use an IRON head with a 72-75cc chamber no problem. If you can get aluminum then run 64 cc chamber for more compression.
