2010 powertrain in a thirdgen?

Just wondering if there's any reason you couldn't put a 2010 engine and transmission into a thirdgen. The V6 in particular would be a great engine to put into an RS. Over 300 horses and 29mpg??? Sign me up!

V6

V8

Can you imagine how smooth that baby would run? I'd love to buy a tired 5 speed thirdgen and fix it up with one of these powering it

Anybody ever done this or thought/planned to do this?

Re: 2010 powertrain in a thirdgen?

Since the 300 horses from the 2010 V6 far exceeds the horses of the 3rd gen stock 5.7, I'd think the 2010 V6 would just kill a stock 3rd gen 5speed - maybe could be mated to the 5speed from the 4th gen - but for 1/2 the cost (right now) I'd think one could have a great crate motor. Maybe in 2 years when there's been a few wrapped around trees could you get an affordable 2010 used drivetrain.

I've been wanting this since I first heard the specs on the fifth gen. Except I wanna get the six-speed too. Hopefully I'll have money for this in two years or so... easy 420 horses, then bolt on a supercharger

When I close my eyes I see it. LOL would be sweet. I would also like the interior in my Camaro.

The 6.2L is the same as any other LS1 swap - the V6 may be, and probably is - uncharted water. You might be all on your own with the V6. I'm pretty sure that V6 is an all new one.

Even though the info from that site says the 6.2l is an LS3?

They are the same externally. That's why we typically use "LSx" when referring to the LS1 "family" of engine swap.

There are also terms like "Gen III" and "Gen IV" - but you don't really need to get into that detail with respect to mounting one into a 3rd gen chassis.

Re: 2010 powertrain in a thirdgen?

The new direct injection V6 PCMs are uncharted territory. Be prepared to jump through alot of hoops to get that to run in a swap. LS3's and L92's are documented in several swaps. Do a search
