Re: key wont turn

Its in park, and the steering wheel is locked, come on now.

I swapped my 305 tbi for an older 350 sbc, I took my ecm out cause I won't be using it anymore, removed all the useless sensors and got a new transmission and shifter. When I hooked my battery up and went to start it my key wouldn't turn

Re: key wont turn

You mentioned shifter ... you know there's a lock mechanism in the stock shifter setup that ... unless is unlocked (ie shifter in park) it keeps the key from turning, right? It's a cable I think that moves something within the ignition cylinder keeping it from turning - could that be the problem? It runs up through the dash and into the column.

Re: key wont turn

New trans & shifter---That info probly woulda helped in the first place.
IIRC, another member had issues putting in a B&M.

OK.. so you obviously know what's next..

Trans & shifter maker.

Understand that this info MAY BE IMPORTANT!! Members have done all kinds of swaps & faced MANY issues, & it MAY BE that some one has faced this issue exactly, & got things working.

Re: key wont turn

I have a built t400 and a turbo scs shifter, I looked for a sensor on the wiring diagram but I couldn't find it. Where does it run after the column?

The solution for this was lowering the steering column about 1/4" so the lock cable couldn't press down.
