Power steering flush

I'm looking at flushing the power steering on my 89 Firebird.

In the pic below, am I supposed to put the clear line on that metal line that is inside the red circle? Then the other end of the line goes to a bucket, and I turn the wheel back and forth to flush it.

Or does the line coming from the power steering pump/reservoir that runs to the bucket?

And anyone recommend a power steering fluid from the local auto parts store?

I think that is right, as that is the return line. But just want to make sure.

If that is right, then you'd need to pinch off that return hose that is on the pump to keep fluid from coming out while you are flushing I believe.

Then I'd replace that hose since it is old anyways, plus it would probably be damaged from clamping it shut via vice grips. It is $2 at Autozone. Plus new clamps.

Re: Power steering flush

My Haynes doesn't say anything about flushing the power steering fluid. Just bleeding it.

So bump again.

I've done did that. And the fluid would stay black. I probably put 2 or so quarts that way. Still black. Which is why I want to do a proper flush as you will get near all of that out and replaced with new.

Re: Power steering flush

Bump. I guess I need to go ask this in a different forum. I was hoping to have the steering fluid flushed by now. I'd at least like to get to it next week.
