Cheap man's stethescope - long screwdriver! Take a long screwdriver, place the metal end on any spot, place the plastic handle against your ear. The vibrations transfer through the screwdriver and amplify to your ear drum. Place on valve covers where each piston is to test each cylinder. Place on alternator, smog pump, water pump, etc - test everything until you find the absolute source of the noise - then you'll have your answer. Might be a rod knock, might just be a bad smog pump bearing or an exhaust leak.
JUST BE CAREFUL! Watch those belts and fans!

Should the diagnose below make a sense?
The flexplate could be faulty – there might be a crack in it and that could make the ticking sound when the gear selector is in “D” position. When the transmission is on neutral, the sound seems to be slight quieter, because there’s not much of resistance caused by the tranny. When one switches the transmission to the “Drive” position, then the crack expands and the noise is more audible.

in service - they said voices must be in engine, and maybe Camshaft. Last time they changes all hydraulic lifters, because thought that these errors. but i think sound must be the bottom enginroom, dont no, i hope they find a real problem quickly

Sounds like a lifter tick, I don't think it's a spun bearing but possibly one that is close and needs to be replaced, actually it sounds just like one in a Toyota I have

Re: 305 tbi camaro strange sound?
That sounds like a cracked flywheel to me. Its not a steady tick like you would have with a lifter, and it is not steady under load. An exhaust leak at the doughnut gaskets would be a lower pop, and a rod knock would be steady as well. I broke the flywheel on my Skylark GS, and swore I had spun a bearing. 23 bucks, and a couple hours of work...problem solved.

They said that knocking is connecting rod sound. and camshaft looks very bad http://www.oldermann.planet.ee/camaro/pildid/nukk.JPG
possible car is flooded 2002 year. solution is a engine off, to pieces and full engine repair. (camshaft and hydraulic lifters already new), but its very expensive work in my country. bad bad.
