Can someone help car sat for a while emptied tanks and replaced fuel pump, new injectors, new ecm, new MAF, new egr valve, new throttle body, new plugs wires cap rotor coil. what the heck could be the cause of this. It starts right up but shuts off also cannot accelerate it shuts it off. help please , car ran fine and then started this. not daily driver but garaged and started often and driven 4 time a month before this.

 

Will it restart (and die) multiple times, or only once and then not start at all? If so, it may be running only on the cold start fuel.

What is standing fuel pressure? Are the injectors operating? Do the injectors have a 12V power supply with the ignition on?

 

yes, it just started doing this all of a sudden, just tried to start it one day and it does start but shuts off right away everytime. no codes at all showing.

 

I'm dealing with this same problem (started a thread about it on the tpi forum). Just came out of nowhere like you are describing. I've replaced a ton of parts but haven't tracked down the problem yet. I'll be replacing the ecm tonight, hopefully that's it but we'll see. Let me know what you figure out and I'll do the same.

 

How do you test the power supply to the injectors? I plugged the contacts of my multimeter into one of the injector plugs and started the car. It came up with a reading but it wasn't 12V. Not sure if I did it right.

 

I am dealing with same problem have power and pressures where they are supposed to be but engine will fire and runs for about 2 sec. running out of ideas!

 

So your getting spark but no fuel, or is it the other way around? My first guess would be a bad Ignition module

 

I fixed mine today i had cyl.4 injector stuck just check the ohms it should be between 11 & 16 ohms.If it is lower try appling a 12v source to it and then recheck the ohms.

 

I've done just about eveything I can think of and had no luck. So far I have replaced and/or checked the following:

ignition coil, dist. cap, rotor, plugs, wires, ignition module, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, checked all fuses, 12V at the injectors, checked all vac lines and hoses, set tps voltage, tapped and unplugged MAF (no change), new ecm

I'm going to try bypassing the VATS system tonight but other than that I don't know what else I could even do. If that doesn't work I might have to throw in the towel and take it to GM, unless you guys can think of anything else I should look at. This is the first problem with the car that I have not been able to solve.

The car starts right up every time, runs for about 2 seconds, and dies. I can keep it running longer by holding the throttle open but it eventually starts surging badly then stalls. It will rev to higher rpms and does not misfire while reving but it dies as soon as the throttle is released. One day the car ran great, the next morning it started and stalled immediately which is what it has done since.

Any advice is appreciated.

 

Got mine fixed today. Turned out to be a bad MAF. Never threw a code and no change in idle when tapping on the sensor. Tried unplugging it a couple times with no change until the last time I tried it. Put a new one in and the car runs like a dream.

Maybe what im gonna ask its stupid but here it goes.... that same thing happened to me yesterday. But i have a carb and i cant find the maf. Does the carb has one? And if it does can u guys help me by telling me where. It was running till my smog compressor went. I just took the belt out the compressor try to start. It starts then the revs go down till it shuts off. Any idea that can help me out? I would appreciate it
