What kind of performance from a T56 can I expect?
Just wondering what kind of performance I can expect from swapping out a 700R4 with 200'000 kms to a T56 6 speed? It's going in a 5.7L GTA. Is it a real kick in the pants? Will it let the car really pond pavement or is it going to be more or less the same.?

It seems like a lot of the 4th gen guys like 4.11's with their t-56's. The double overdrive lets you run a steep gear in the back without hurting your cruise rpm's.

If you like driving stick it's nice but you will probably get no performance gain, also stick with 3.7 gear ratio for a TPI car, I found 4.10's little much.
If your looking for little more pep maybe a stall converter is what you need.

Thats not what I was expecting. I went for a ride the other day in a 5 speed 4.6L Mustang and could not believe the pull and power especially on the 3rd gear downshifts. I really miss that feeling from the Auto. I figured a 5.7L mated to an auto would be a blast, and at least as fun as the 4.6L Mustang

Oh trust me the fact that it's a manual will give it a hell of a kick. The solid connection between teh engine and the rear wheels makes an amazing difference in the feel of the acceleration and the attitude of the car.
But dont expect the car to get better times unless you have decent gearing. It's worth it for the fun factor, but if you're only trying to get your ET's down, there are better options and you'll be disappointed.

Re: What kind of performance from a T56 can I expect?
T56's will like gears a step shorter than T5's. The T56 has a taller first gear and a super tall final gear, so basically 3.73s-4.10s are perfect for them. 3.42's will be tolerable, though. My 3.27's are way too tall for it and it makes the car a bit less fun than it should be.
