Fuel Injector install

If anyone can assist in how to install fuel injectors on my 89 formula 350, it would be most appreciated. I have been looking into how to do it and came up short.
I know you need to remove pressure form the fuel rail by taking gas cap off (that what I was told to do???)

thanks in advance.

Re: Fuel Injector install

I'd highly recommend a repair manual for any car that you'll be working on. It doesn't need to be the dealer service manual, a book from any parts store is usually enough.

That being said:

Re: Fuel Injector install

AWESOME HELP!! SO informative. Really appreciate the help.
Question, when you put the runners on, or know of someone who has, did they or you ever get a fuel leak from the pressure valve on the pass side of the fuel rail? I took the valve out, blew into it in attempts to clean it but it still leaks gas. I was very careful when having the rail out and putting the new injectors in.

any ideas? My friend and I are stumped.

Re: Fuel Injector install

Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with the TPI systems on these cars. Are you referring to the fuel pressure regulator? Maybe you can point out what's leaking in this picture:

From: http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te..._v8/index.html

If fuel is leaking from a flare fitting, you don't need to use teflon tape, but make sure both sides are seated together well before tightening. You might also want to replace any O-rings or gaskets on the rail. If a rubber seal is what's leaking, this might not be the ideal scenario but it is possible that fuel will cause the leaking seal to swell and stop leaking after a short period of time.

Re: Fuel Injector install

Ok, I fixed the fuel rail. It was a leak from the valve pressure spot. The piece inside the valve was loose.

Now I got the car started. I now am having problems with it running correctly. it has a purge to the idle. I step on the gas when it is in park and it seems the rev pretty good. When I put it in drive however, there is no power and the car does not want to move. I thought I also heard a small pop when stepping on the gas a bit. I did not want to floor it due to uncertainties, Needless to say, I did not make it much further than my driveway.
Has this happened to you or to someone youknow. Got any idea?

Appreciaite your help.

Re: Fuel Injector install

This only started happening after you replaced the fuel injectors? Are all of the sensors connected, any engine codes?

If all of the wires and vacuum lines are hooked up correctly, you can try connecting a fuel pressure gauge and checking the fuel pressure while idling and driving.

Re: Fuel Injector install

all the sensors seem to be hooked up as well as all the hoses. There was one hose that was under the plenum that was closed off with a screw for some unknown reason. Connected, it was causing idle and the other issues described. When I pulled it and blocked it with a cap, the idle was a little better but when beginning to drive, it hesitates and the transmission does not shift right *. This is leaving me to think a vacuum line is not hooked up right or not connected etc? the tranny seems to shift when I take my foot off the gas.

* no transmission issues before this situation. worked 150%

This is getting a little frustrating now. I have to look in my cholton book but I do not think it will that informative. What I do need thatmy friend can not help me with either is the vacuum hose locations that are on the passenger side of the plenum in the back.

Re: Fuel Injector install

All of the vacuum lines should be hooked up. Here are a couple of diagrams that might be helpful:

http://chevythunder.com/fuel%20injec...um%20lines.htm

If the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is damaged, then you would need something like this:

Seems a little expensive, but I haven't checked any other sources.

Have you tried checking for any error codes (check engine light)?

Re: Fuel Injector install

ok, check this out. the info you sent worked perfectly. Very much appreciated. Now, the car shifts gears VERY hard. For some reason now, the tranny is delayed in shifting. Never had any issues with it nor was there even a slight sign of any issues with it. I do not know where to check now.

please help.

Frustrated.
