shakes when I break...

Not sure if this is in the right spot but here it goes... So the other day I was driving home and approached a light. As I hit the break to slow down, my car started to shake. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Re: shakes when I break...

Brake rotors are warped. Have had this problem a few times. Is the brake pedal real stiff?

Did it feel like the front wheels were about to come off? It is probably the front rubber brake hose's. Change them both. This is a really common problem.

I agree with Doom86. Lines only about $10.00 Mine was doing the same thing. Put new rotors and pads. The brake hoses were actually resticting fluid. I could apply pressure but it would not release when I let off the brake. I changed them and all good now.

warped rotors/drums whichever you have, when out of round the pads/shoes contact them here and there rather than constant. Have them turned at your local auto parts store. Also if using your brakes constantly in traffic, causing your rotors/drums to become real hot-refrain from using your e-brake when parking shortly after getting the brakes this hot (steel becomes softer and pulling real hard on that e-brake handle can warp them out again)

Re: shakes when I break...

I don't remember the last time or if I have changed my brake lines at all and I've had the bird since 99. The reason I asked about the pedal being stiff is when my car was doing that it was like the pads got siezed on the rotor or stuck or something. I had to do a quick tap on the pedal to loosen the brakes up. Anyway, turning the rotors and putting new pads on will cure the problem more than likely, if not then it's obviously something else. But start with the rotors and pads.

It's not the brake line its the brake hose that connects the line to the caliper they internally collapse. I've had this happen to both of my fbodies.

Re: shakes when I break...

if you have the rotors turned make sure thay measure them before to see if they are thick enough to be turned and after they are turned to double check.

Re: shakes when I break...

Alright well can't hurt to spend the extra $ and replace the lines, although after shaking the hell out of my front end, turned rotors and new pads worked for me. And yeah, I know the dif between a line and a hose.
