91-92 year models had the recalls but hey that don't mean that the 89 don't have a problem I just had my FP replaced and wondering if the filler neck is cracked is there a easy way to check it?
I only noticed it after the tank was FULL

Are you over filling it?
trying the best you can to get every drop inthe tank you can, you can put in to much, where it will come out the vents and up the filler neck on a turn.

yes as a matter of fact I have been discussing this with the guys that I work with and yes I did fill up and then kept trying to fill the tank after the pump kept cutting off and stopping. Do you think this is the problem? IF so will it go away after I drive awhile or have I screwed something up. and last but not least what is the OEM part# for the gas cap I don't think that the one on my car is orig.

Shouldn't have screwed anything up - except losing some gas due to overfilling. It's quite possible you have a leak in the filler neck - especially if anyone has ever changed the fuel pump by dropping the tank - you have to bend the filler neck very carefully in order to get the tank out, and sometimes folks bend it too much too fast and can create a leak.
If I found a filler neck leak, I'd sand all the gunk, rust, etc. away from the area, and try some of that marine stuf that's gas-proof - comes in a tube, should adhere to clean bare metal, and is fuel-proof (used on boats with fuel leaks all the time). Won't cost you anything but an hour or so, some sandpaper, and maybe $10 for that stuff - worth a shot before dropping the tank and having a shop weld the leak.

Figure out your typical gallon usage between your typical stops for gas and go by that instead of cramming it full. Like I only buy 5gal of gas at a time. And stop as needed. V8, V6 car same thing, just more stops with the V8

Re: Leaking Fuel by the gas cap, Help!
FYI - your tank holds just over 15 gallons when empty. So, even at empty and coasting in to the pump, 15 gallons even will be a "fill-up". I usually run mine to 1/4 tank, then fill 10 gallons in - never quite "full", but close enough. Besides, at $3.20 a gallon and rising (I take 93 octane), a $32 hit is about all I can stand at once

Re: Leaking Fuel by the gas cap, Help!
yeah I put a new o-ring on the cap and drove it awhile then park on a hill leaning toward the drivers side and no leak. I guess I'm used to my other vehicles taking 16-34 gallons to fill up. thanks everyone for your replies.
Now on to the next problem: I have a real bad skip but only under hard accel. just cruising it's fine. some times it (looks) like there is some arching between the wires or do I just have them too close to some metal. (have used three diff. sets of wires) xacts, msd's,and (napa) beldan's. Harold our advance auto expert (he really knows his stuff) said to check engine ground straps any ideas? is he right?

Spark will take the path of least resistance to ground, and even if that means coming through the rubber insulator on the wires or shooting out the side of the coil it will. if it doens't want to travel out the end of the plug like it should, something is bad in that chain.
Time for a full tune up, plugs, cap/rotor, wires.

If you see arcing anywhere in the ignition wires, they are bad - even if new. Plug wire manufacturers don't test the wires after they have been cut to length, they only test the entire reel of wire. Try another set of wires, definitely another brand - maybe a different store like NAPA that carries different brand than Harold.
On the grounds - you have
1) neg batt cable to engine (usually alternator bolt)
2) groundstrap from rear pass head to firewall
3) small ground wire from neg batt terminal to fender
Make sure all make clean connections - maybe sand dirt/grime/paint at firewall and fender and alt bracket.

you want good spiral core wire set, or if you need to go cheap, you get an Accel uni super stock kit for $20-25 where you cut to length n crimp your own ends.

If you haven't ordered wires yet, Taylor-Made makes nice wires, and they come in many cool colors - they are cut-to-length so you get the right fit - had mine 4 years now and no issues at all out of them.

Hey got problem I tried 4-sets of wires Xacts, stock,MSD 8mm (advance auto), and 7mmBeldans (NAPA) and all them did the same thing they arch some one told me that if the engine wasn't grounded correctly that no matter what wires I use that I would mess them all up
Is this true? I see the fire/spark (pretty and blue) jumping out near the dist. and in the middle of the wires on both sides of the car
89 305 tbi 700r4 thsi is wierd 4 sets from 2 places supposedly everything is stock. the PO said they took the 305 out and put in a 350 I thought adn still think that he is lying but just in case he's not does it make a diff?

Should start a thread of your own just about this topic and run down over everything again. But bad engine grounds will do funny things.
