Re: speedo doesnt work
Most likely it is a broken or disconnected speedo cable. Put it on jack stands and check the connection at the tranny. Then follow the cable up to the next connection, which will be your cruise control if so equipped, then from there through the firewall to the back of the speedometer. That being said, had an 82 once that the cable broke in the cruise control connection. Went to Autozone and got a new one and was back in operation in a few minutes.

the crusie is aftermarket, and i just replaced the gauges, i just sat the gauges in there, do i have to physically pull the speedo braket out and connect it to the gauge?

Re: speedo doesnt work
Is it an after market speedo? or just another set of factory gauges? If I am understanding you correctly, you will need to remove the cable from the original speedo and connect it to the new one.

Re: speedo doesnt work
yeah, all you need to do is connect the speedo cable into the back of the speedometer. If you pull those gauges back out, you should see the speedometer cable back up inside the dash assuming the previous owner didn't remove it completely.

Re: speedo doesnt work
i saw a plug in, like i round hole back there but thought that the plug on the back of the gauges would just slid in and work like the rest of the gauges.

Re: speedo doesnt work
The speedometer is mechanical and the other gauges are electric so they work when plugged in. If you connected the speedometer cable completely and it still wont work, then you have a broken cable somewhere along the line.

Re: speedo doesnt work
It's doubtful that the odometer works (but not impossible). Here's the fix, if it doesn't:

I'd also pull the cable from the housing and clean and relube it:

Re: speedo doesnt work
With the cluster in place, remove the lower kick panel, access the cable from below and push/snap it into place.

Re: speedo doesnt work
I just had to do this to my car, and the way I found worked the best was to grip the cable way back at the firewall, push it back toward the cluster, visually line up the end of the cable with the speedometer post, and then push on the front of the cluster until it snaps into place
