high rev startup

Hey guys, havnt started my iroc for a while now bacuse its winter. I took the intake off and painted it, and put everything back together the way it was before. Now today i went to start it because it was *warm* or 8degrees. as soon as it started it reved up high, so I shut it off immediately. I tried a few times, but it reved every time. Could it be reving because it cold and starting up, or would it be an air leak?

I killed it once it reached about 4000, and the tach stayed there once I shut it off

Re: high rev startup

Is the throttle hung on somthing maybe ??? cause 4000 rpm is way high for not pushing the gas down even if it has little leaks it shouldnt rev that high. I would check the throttle cable.

Re: high rev startup

I have the *ram air* air dam box and tube off so I can see the throttle body, and it is closed. I found a a/c hose disconnected, but I doubt thats it.

Re: high rev startup

Damn man its got to be a major vaccum leak somewhere. its prolly a dumb question but did you use new gaskest when u put the intake back together? Make sure all of them are aligned correctly none of them are broke anywhere ect. 4000 is way high without giving it any throttle.

Re: high rev startup

No I didnt use new gaskets, I just took of the plenum and runners and the gaskets were in good shape. They are all lined up right too.

Re: high rev startup

Well if it went from running good to reving to 4000 rpm and all you did was take the intake off and use the old gaskets i would bet a gasket either got torn somwhere or somthing went wrong when putting it back on. all the vaccum lines on the throttle body are hooked up?

Re: high rev startup

Yes, the throttle body never came out or had anything disconnected, other then from the plenum.

Well for starter i would go over everything you took apart and make sure all the gaskets are sealing right.

Re: high rev startup

I found a hose that goes to the little black box with GM on it and a green connector for the wires going into in, the hose that goes from the box to the plenum was slightly kinked. would that make a difference?

Re: high rev startup

If it was kinked i dont think it would make it rev high but it might not run right are you talking about the map sensor?

I managed to bend my runners taking them off, thought i got them bent back because they lined up at the top, but there is a big gap on the bottom I just found.

Thanks for your help
