Tubes and Wires go...

I have a bunch of tubes and wires that go nowhere, I could use some help figuring out what goes where or what it's called.

Pictures in this folder: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/album.php?albumid=4238

ANY help is greatly appreciated

Re: Tubes and Wires go...

does the car run? It looks like someone tried to remove the emissions and AC.
Pic 5 seems to be a oil pressure sending unit.
Pic 6 is a temp activated vacuum switch (used for emissions I think ).
What year is the car Ill try to look in my diagrams for the wires as soon as I get some time.

Re: Tubes and Wires go...

Here are wiring diags for almost any 3rd gen - study looking for wire colors, might help:

http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

Pic 4, green wire - maybe coolant temp for the guage? - would run to sender in driver side head between #1 & #3 spark plug - does your temp guage work?

Pic 5 - looks like the hole at the top of the china wall - usually a oil pressure sending unit there, or else it's plugged. Yours looks 'plugged', but not a good job of it. Any hardware store sells little brass plugs for that small hole. Does your oil guage/idiot light work?

Pic 7 - looks like a MAP sensor, BUT ...

Pic 8 IS a MAP sensor - so I'm lost on Pic 7

Pic 10 looks like the EGR solenoid/connector

Pic 11, 12, 13 looks like same thing as pic 10, correct?

You see there's a hole at the end of the metal bracket - I think that usually gets held down with a valve cover bolt, but won't hurt anything for it to be 'loose' as long as it doesn't interfere with linkage or lines get pinched.

Pic 17 looks like a part of the gas evap system - the pic is driver side just behind headlight right? There should be a vacuum line on that thing that runs to the carb I think - but exactly where on the carb I dont know (I haven't seen under the hood of a OEM carbed car in a long time). That round canister is the evap or charcoal canister - it collects excess fumes from gas tank and fuel system, the vacuum line that should be attached to it then sucks these fumes into the carb to get burned - exactly when that occurs is controlled by the ECM usually.

Pic 18 same as 17 - missing another vacuum line there.

Disclaimer I'm taking somewhat educated guesses here - I may well be wrong.

Sorry you have such a mess on your hands - don't give up - between wiring diags, the guesses of folks here, and vacuum diags (do a search you'll find some), you'll get it all sorted out.

Where are you located? Maybe if we knew, someone here lives close by and can come take a look - we have members here from all over the world!
