Will this have a lumpy sound?

id like to start off saying i know nothing about cams lol
i picked up today a hydr. roller lunati cam and roller lifters for $80 the cam has .480 lift(only thing i know about it) tried to search the p/n 60113 but it says the lift to that cam is like .520 or something so im assuming its a different box he put the cam in...i plan on making my engine into a roller next winter with a 400 crank..my question is will this cam make a lumpy sound or no? i love that sound lol i dont no if thats enough info for my question to be answered or not...My engine specs right now are
350 2bolt main
.20 over
dish piston
mild cam
steel crank
edlebrock performer intake
10.7:1 compression
416 ported/polished heads
hedman shorty headers
hei ignition with advance curve
flowmaster 3"exhaust
accel wires

thanks
-Josh

Sarcasm? I'm assuming? Should I just leave the cam I have in there now or give it a shot?

Re: Will this have a lumpy sound?

I said it was a good cam or I would have not tried to buy it. It is going to make good power in the upper RPM and should kick around a good bit. I would run it in a heartbeat.

Where did you get the cam number from ?
Off the box or off the cam?
If it is indeed a #60113 ;
then at 243 / 251 .560 lift that is a serious cam with very rough idle
May need more compression to get it to work and a hi stall convertor

Re: Will this have a lumpy sound?

Ertel is (was) a company that makes (made) the cheeeeeeeepest of the cheeeeeeeep "rebuilder" stuff. Pistons mostly. They "sold" about everything, cheeeeeeepest of the cheeeeeep, to yerbasic cheeeeeeeeeep low-bid "rebuilders" for bottom-dollar "rebuilt" motors. You know, the kind that have a 30-day warranty, and if you get a GOOD one, last about 60 days.

Sounds like you have one of their cams.

See this post for someone else who had one. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...737-ertel.html (It's always FUN when Google points you back to something you wrote half a decade ago!!) Might be the same as the one you have, might not. Might be a 929 copy. That's what most of em were.

I also told that guy how to measure it, what it would measure, and .... surprise!!! .... guess what it measured. Go measure yours using the same technique, and you'll know right away pretty close to what it is.

If you paid $80 for it, that's about $100 more than I would have paid for it, and about $30 more than you can buy it brand new from Summit. This is what the other guy had. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1102/ This is a copy of the 929. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLP-CS-274/

Sounds like you just learned a growing-up lesson the HARD way. The lesson being, ask what it is BEFORE you buy it, not AFTER.

Re: Will this have a lumpy sound?

Don't worry about stamped numbers or the PO's story about ".480 lift" or who Ertel is/was, if you can't find it. Ertel may well be out of business and not have a web site.

Measure it. It is what it is. Measuring it will tell you what it is. If I were the betting kind, I'd bet it will measure to be one of the 2 cams I posted above.

Did you read the whole thread?

AS sofakingdom notes the cam he most likely has is 204 / 214 or 194 / 203 ; not exactly earth shattering

The Lunati # 60113 he wishes he has is lumpy

And you "know" this .... how??

MEASURE IT.

Mahle bought the Clevite name a couple of years ago. Before that, it was the TRW trademark for their bearings. Other engine parts supplied under that nake were basically more "rebuilder" stuff. However, neither TRW, Clevite, Mahle, or ANY OTHER engine parts mfr, marked their products "Ertel". Only ONE company did that... ERTEL. That's whose product you have. No point in denying it.

None of which matters very much. MEASURE IT. That will tell you FOR SURE what it is.

Email Lunati your specs, and what you want.. They'll suggest a nice cam for you, and one that will fit the clearances on your heads.
