Coolant leak from one of these hoses

Hey everyone. I recently picked up an 87' Iroc and had noticed a pool of coolant underneath it. I checked under it today, and I looked for where the leak was coming from. I noticed there are two hoses, side by side, and the one on the top is leaking coolant. I haven't the slightest clue though, as to what and where these hoses go to. I checked a couple of parts stores, and even showed them pictures, and they didn't know either.
I have attached a photo with a red box around it, to point out what I mean.
If anyone could help me identify and fix the problem, that would be fantastic!
Thanks! (not my car in photo...and sorry if it is a little hard to see.)

Not to sound like the smartass but why can't you just follow them to see where they go. I can't think of what they'd be for right off hand. Sorry buddy.

Haha, no worries. Well, I did try and trace them..and they run into the engine block somewhere...and connect to something within that picture.

Look like the lines to the oil warmer.

Isn't there supposed to be oil running through those lines than? Then again, I did read somewhere that those lines are supposed to have coolant running through them. Is that right? And when I went to Shaw GMC, they said the lines were supposed to be metal, and the one that's leaking is rubber?

Re: Coolant leak from one of these hoses

Right: they carry water, and they are (were) metal. The oil only goes through the little sandwich adapter between the block and the filter.

Most likely, they already rusted through once, and somebody changed out all or part of it, with rubber.

Re: Coolant leak from one of these hoses

Thanks for the info everyone. So, now that's sorted out...I asked around and someone said I can get them replicated from a shop here in Calgary. I was wondering, how would I go about taking the hoses out? Should I drain the coolant, and then take them off? Or, should I just order the aluminum reproduction ones off of Hawks?

Calgary, that explains the condition of the underside

your struts need to be replaced
your front sway bar bushing clamp is rusted
the bushings need to be sprayed with restorer or at least silicon
sway bar bushings are probably collapsed and need replacement on the outer ends.

front end is out of alignment
you need tires
add grease

I hope the sale price was under $1,000 USD unless of course the paint and interior are in pristine shape.

If that is the condition of the suspension then I shudder to think about just how well the drivetrain was maintained.

Re: Coolant leak from one of these hoses

Yeah...good ol' Calgary. I forgot to add...this isn't my underside...I just got the picture off the web as a reference. If that's bad...then mine is worse! Luckily, I got the car for free...
Anyways, I took a look under again, and I'm thinking that the harmonic tensioner gouged the hose. Has anyone here had any experience replacing the oil cooler lines?
Thanks!

That car looks pretty solid to me. You should see some of the cars driving around New Brunswick. Wherever you live you must be spoiled with your car conditions

moved from New England to Florida. It's night and day what older cars are like underneath.
