Cam swap on the Horizon

Before I start throwing money around, I'd like to ask if I can re-use some of the things on my motor. That way, I wouldn't have so much to buy.

Can I re-use the timing set, spring retainers, clips, springs (if they'll hold)?

They have, at most, 60 miles on them after the engine build.

Would I be safe in just buying the cam and lifter kit?

You can reuse it all if you want, and if the springs are compatible with your new cam. If you have a roller cam now you can even reuse the lifters.

I don't know exactly what cam is in there, but I'm not going to take a chance on it and just get the lifters with the cam.

Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it.

Re: Cam swap on the Horizon

If you get a flat tappet cam and lifters, and then you find out that you have a factory roller cam in your block now, you'll need a new timing set.

I know that the block itself it a 72 casting, so I know that It's not a factory roller block.
